Day 192: A day in the world’s newest capital

Lake Ohrid

We’re passing through Macedonia en route eastwards to Bulgaria. Made a short stopover at Lake Ohrid, Europe’s oldest and deepest (“and cleanest” joked a local). Nice little old town that carried a faint aura of glamour without matching prices. It’s a party town in summer – our room was right above two clubs blasting hits from the last two decades, enough to keep us awake in bed til 3am. Other than Ohrid, there wasn’t much else we wanted to do so we filled our itinerary with a daytrip to Kosovo today.

Day 190: Albania, land of the warmest smiles

Morning Coffee in Gjirokastra

Didn’t sleep well last night. Not sure what kept us up more: the coffee and raki (aniseed flavoured liquor sipped straight up, this is the albanian vodka) that Mario invited us to, or the thought of leaving this country which unexpectedly became our home away from home, our family away from family.

Day 186: A Quick Hop To Greece

Morning coffee at a cafe on Corfu

I told you I told you… You weren’t gonna be interested in Greece!! But it was hard to resist, the Greek island Corfu was only 90 mins away from the Albanian coast it would seem silly not to hop over and find out for ourselves what this part of Greece was like. And so we did, we came, we saw… and now we want to go back to Albania. Continued 繼續看…

Day 185: City of a Thousand Windows and City of Stone

Berat – City of a Thousand Windows

Never thought we’d venture this far into Albania, but having read about the country’s two UNESCO world heritage towns, it would’ve been too foolish to miss: Berat, ‘city of a thousand windows’ and Gjirokastra, ‘city of stone’.
