Morning Coffee in Gjirokastra
Didn’t sleep well last night. Not sure what kept us up more: the coffee and raki (aniseed flavoured liquor sipped straight up, this is the albanian vodka) that Mario invited us to, or the thought of leaving this country which unexpectedly became our home away from home, our family away from family.

Berat – City of a Thousand Windows
Never thought we’d venture this far into Albania, but having read about the country’s two UNESCO world heritage towns, it would’ve been too foolish to miss: Berat, ‘city of a thousand windows’ and Gjirokastra, ‘city of stone’.

Theth – a tranquil village in a far-flung corner of Albania
We’re in Albania! A country so foreign to me but I don’t feel foreign here at all. We got our first taste of Albanian roads the way they’re described in Lonely Planet:
“..driving on mountain ‘roads’… is a whole new field of extreme sport. Cars, furgons, trucks and buses do go off the edge.”
