Day 33: From Nicaragua to Costa Rica by foot

| Leaving Nicaragua |
We’re on a bus to Liberia, Costa Rica! Customs was a breeze albeit troublesome. Having travelled for 4 hours by minivan, ferry, and chicken bus to the border, the last thing you wanna do is haul your backpack and walk a kilometre in the scorching sun from Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Continued 繼續看…

We’ve been struggling for days whether or not to visit Ometepe – an island that came into existence when twin volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas erupted in Lake Nicaragua. Getting there wasn’t a problem, but seeing the island properly would be tough primarily due to the lack of frequent public transportation. Getting from the pier to the next interesting town alone takes 1.5 to 2 hours. And we didn’t have enough info to figure out where we should go for the best views. Continued 繼續看…

Day 30-31: Surfing in Nicaragua
Here it comes, quick! Grab the board, paddle paddle paddle… And now! I pushed myself up and popped onto the surf board, balancing as I tried to stand. Being 8 ft long, it had a lot more stability than I imagined and I was surfing for the first time. The feeling: fucking awesome! I laughed out loudly to myself. I finally got to try something I’ve always wanted to. Continued 繼續看…

Day 26: Ever thought about boarding down an active volcano??
Well.. you can here in Nicaragua! Volcano boarding was developed over 4 years ago on Cerro Negro, a charcoal black cinder volcano standing proudly at an elevation of 728m. Cerro Negro is active, with its last major eruption in 1999 spewing so much ash it covered the town of Leon (where we are staying), 25km away. Continued 繼續看…
